| I just got
done watching "On the Fringe" by Jeff Palmer. Here's my
review:
=======================================================
In this digital age where just about anybody has access to
professional-looking film equipment the only thing that can be missing
in a movie is talent, basic skills of the craft and story telling
capability - with the emphasis on the latter. Finally, a lot of hard
work to maintain a vision, enough persistence to actually complete a
project, you could have in the end a gem that can stand the test of
time.
Such is the case with "On The Fringe".
I cannot keep myself from bubbling over in giddy excitement as to the
wonderful talent, raw story-telling ability and colorful, diverse
characters that Jeff has brought to us in this film. He deserves every
bit of accolade he has received and more.
In fact in another time, he may have been a success like Edward Burns or
many others who have brought great dramatic works to the screen with no
names and a lot of heart. Perhaps if he chooses, that time has yet to
come for Jeff. To say the least I am inspired.
Each character unique. Many scenes filled with wisdom and
thought-provoking character insight, great dialogue, true-to-life
performances. A joyous visual array of images, a tapestry of light and
sound. All brought together with an underlying theme and core thread of
truth throughout that one rarely sees in a cinematic piece and often has
to look for in a good book. Perhaps it should have been a book. Maybe it
was or a least a short story. Maybe it has been thought of. I don't
know.
But if you are a film fan, you like a good drama, you'll love this film.
If you are a budding filmmaker, you need this film. This film sets a new
standard, it has raised the bar. Watch and learn.
Needless to say my hat is off to Jeff. If I have anything negative to
say at all, it is that this film has not been seen by the right people.
Or that it has not been seen by enough people. It is a tough market out
there for Indies.
Christmas is right around the corner though folks. If you and yours
enjoy a good movie, this just might be the perfect stocking-stuffer. Get
somebody something unique this holiday season. A boutique gift if you
will. Something a person can cherish and behold as something their friends
wont have. Sit back, and sip your cider, eggnog or wine and enjoy.
Do it now before Jeff's films become available in Walmart. :) |
